Oh....Morris!

 Happy New Years to you all! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. I love the holiday's but man oh man, I am glad they are over. I've been  quite a busy little bee lately. I have been doing a lot of thinking about my sewing goals for 2016. I'd like to share those with you, but first....let's talk about this amazing blazer....

 Morris Blazer by Grainline Studio (a fellow Chicagoan...hey girl!) I would like to think that this blazer is named after Morris Chestnut, but somehow, it probably isn't. Oh well...a girl can dream can't she? 

Morris Blazer can be described as a casual blazer with shawl collar, bracelet length sleeves and just the right amount of sheer coolness.

 I used a Ponte Roma striped knit from Stylish Fabric, which works really well for this blazer.

I previously did 2 other versions when the pattern came out last April, however, neither one of them worked very well. I tried using a woven, but it was a disaster and I can't quite remember what the issue was with the other one. But alas, I have a successful one now!

I cut a size 2 and did no adjustments at all.
Construction was easy. Jen has a sew along on her blog. I didn't follow the sew along, however I did glance at it when it was time to attach the facings, and I was glad to have that resource available to me. The rest of the blazer was really quite easy

 I don't have a picture of the inside but I serged all my seams. Because the blazer is not lined, for some reason I have it in my head that people will be staring at me in bewilderment if my insides are not neat enough. I'm cray cray like that.

 I did my best to match my stripes and I think I'm getting better at it. I cut each piece flat and as a single layer, which helped quite a bit. 

I had been wanting a striped blazer for a while and now I've got it. I love that I can pair this blazer with colored pants for a pop of color or even with a bright colored blouse (hmmm...maybe next time)

 I've read a few people had some trouble with the facings flapping all around. I found this to be true of my version too. To fix this, I just tacked the facings down in a few places and it's fixed! 

As always, I love my new handmade item. My handmade wardrobe is growing quickly, and I'm very satisfied with everything that I've made.

So back to my goals. I know many of you did not come here to read about my goals, so I'll keep them brief.

For 2016 I would like to:
1. Blog twice as much as I did in 2015
2. Let go of my inhibitions that I cannot do something (many times I shy away from a pattern because I don't think I can tackle it. This year, I'm gonna just go for it)
3. Purchase a Bernina
4. Get through that UFO pile that I have
5. Sew more lingerie
6. Move my blog to Wordpress
